Racing Recap and Plans for 1/25 and 1/26

GREETINGS CATAMOUNT RACING ENTHUSIASTS:

With the recent fantastic snow making weather , and a full schedule of races, we have really moved headlong into the thick of the competition season and have a lot to look forward to this weekend.

For starters, those who will not be away racing will finally have the chance to  light up some turns on our new amazing trail Ripper, which along with Catapult is scheduled to open this weekend. We can’t wait to get out there to check it out.

We’ve got a number of races going on for our athletes this weekend, with the U12-14’s trekking over to the other side of the state for a MASSRA  GS at Wachusetts, on Saturday while the U16’s will be heading south to Bruce’s neck of the woods to for a Tri-State Slalom at  Mt. Southington.  On Sunday, a number of U16’s and 19’s will also be making their way to Wachusetts for a GS. Unfortunately, this race filled up faster this year than had ever been experienced before and consequently some of our kids were shut out.  Finally, on Sunday the Interclubbers will finally kick off their competition season with a Combi at Butternut. For many Interclubbers and their parents, this will be their first race. We are excited for you to discover the wonder s of Race Day. We have been really impressed by how hard all the kids and coaches  have been working and even more impressed by the sheer amount of fun that they are having.

Good luck to all of our racers on Race day!!

Saturday training will consist of the U19’s running GS on Alley Cat on Saturday, and Interclub practicing on  a Combi and doing SkillsQuest drills Catamount Slope to get ready for their event at Butternut the next day.

On Sunday, the  U16’s and 19’s who did not get into Wachusetts will be  training SL on Catamount Slope, and the U12-14’s will be training GS on Alley Cat.

In order for the U19’s and U12-14’s  to train GS on Alley Cat it is essential that we set plenty of BNET on the hill. Although there will be coaches and race crew on hand it is still a laborious task and we could really use Parent Volunteers to assist. Please do not be shy about jumping in to help out  early on Saturday morning at 8:30 and again Sunday afternoon to help pull it down.

We are all looking forward to seeing you all for another fantastic weekend.

Ski fast, have fun!

Bruce & Colin

Racing Reminders

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick reminder to all racers, please finalize/renew your USSA memberships as soon as possible. When registering don’t forget that Catamount is a Massachusetts State Mountain and to register each of your Racers as ALPINE COMPETITOR and NOT alpine general. A general membership will not allow your racer to compete in events. The tristate dues included in this membership refer to our region, Tristate Region, and are required for competitor membership

Also, to any racer parents with Rad Jackets that are no longer being used. We have a lot of new parents this season who are interested in them for their racers. If you have any gently used red jackets, race suits, or other equipment you’d like to unload, please post on our facebook group page or email catamountracing@gmail.com . Please include item photo sizing details and $ amount requesting. We can get it posted for our parents who are seeking such items.

Picking up Your Season Pass

New racers: Picking up your pass for the first time can be done at the New ticket booth attached to Catamount Lodge or with any cashier, with the exception of the Lesson desk inside the Berkshire lodge. Each racer will need to have a 2019/2020 Program Release form signed and submitted to pick up their seasons pass.

Returning racers: If your passes are paid for, the racing release form below has been signed/ submitted for your racer/racers, and if you have your RFID card from last season, your pass is already active and will work automatically no need to see anyone.

There is a $5.00 fee to replace the RFID card.

If passes haven’t been paid for yet, pay for your pass on-line ahead of time or see any cashier at the new ticket booth to complete this step.
Thank you,

A Note from Bruce Diamond and Colin Bargar

GREETINGS CATAMOUNT RACE FAMILIES:

Although we were definitely challenged by the weather this past weekend, we still got the season off to a great start on Sunday with the first day of Tri-State training on Sunday, followed by an on-snow clinic with many of the Tri-State coaches that was also attended by a few Interclub and Devo coaches. The kids who were there were all fired up to finally start the season. The time on the hill with the coaches was a lot of fun, as we shared goals, expectations, tricks of the trade and fellowship with each other.
As you all know, practice will begin with the lifts loading at 8:30 for Tri-State and 9:00 for Interclub and Devos.

Prior to hitting the slopes, we would like to have a short meeting of the Interclub and Devos coaches, and the Interclub and Devos parents and kids at 8:15 sharp in the Taconic Lodge Race Bubble to introduce the coaches to the parents and kids prior to unleashing the racers on the mountain with their coaches. Colin and I will remain in the lodge to speak with the parents in the lodge and to answer any of your questions.

While practice typically will run until 3:00 in the afternoon for Tri-State, and 2:30 for Interclub and Devos, we will be ending Saturday training this week a bit earlier, at 2:00 so the Interclub and Devos coaches can assemble at 2:15 in front of the Quad Chairlift to spend some time together as a group skiing the mountain and discussing plans and goals for the season, as well as various aspects of fundamentals. The temperatures are going be dropping all week and we are expecting mountain ops to crank out and cover the trails with tons and tons of new snow. We are really looking forward to getting out on the hill this weekend to kick off the season with all of your fabulous kids. All the best!!
